Cyanotype
Cyanotype is a photographic printing technique that does not use a camera. Images are created by brushing a photo sensitive emulsion onto a surface that is allowed to dry. Objects or negatives are placed on the surface and exposed to UV light. The areas covered remain unreacted and white. The exposed areas become an amazing Prussian blue.
By experimenting with the basic cyanotype process, varying results can be achieved. I manipulate seaweed, sand, stones and water to make images that recall the motion of water and the essence of sea life. I find that the spontaneous and mercurial nature of the process allows for elements of surprise and magic to be revealed.
