About the Artist

I grew up in Illinois where my family lived beside a small lake. Playing by the lake and interacting with its inhabitants created strong bonds to the mysteries of water and the greater outdoors. Treasured family trips to the Florida Gulf expanded my fascination with the elemental forces of water and the complex networks of life living in and around it. Now living in Maine, the ocean and outdoors continue to be sources of exploration and enchantment and serve as inspiration for my art making.

Creating cyanotypes unites my love of the ocean and joy in making art. I use seaweed, stones, sand, water and, of course, sunlight to create images that evoke the movement of water and the vitality of life in the sea. The cyanotype process can be unpredictable and full of surprises, like the water and life it is emulating.

Twining stems from other memories rooted in childhood by the lake. It is time spent lying in the grass and imagining clouds. It is sitting in a tree you have climbed and listening to the wind or observing insects at work. Twining is quietly experiencing the underlying rhythms and harmonies that constitute nature and breathing along with them.
